Draugr, a black/ folk band with thrash metal influences was formed in 2002 in Abruzzo (Italy) and they released their second full-lenght, "De Ferro Italico" on the 6th of May 2011. They are another band which had chosen their name from J.R.R. Tolkien's writings as Draug means wolf in Sindarin language. The wolf it's also the representative figure of their native city, Abruzzo and also the symbol of Rome. Scandiavinas used to consider wolves as the symbol of vengeance and bloody minded spirits. All these facts lead the band to choose Draug to represent their logo. The Italians lyrics are inspired by nature, Abruzzo's folklore, history and local legends, all included in the main theme: paganism and a little of anti-christianity.

This album begins with an epic intro reminding about how Italy was born. Since Draugr is such a patriotic band, almost all their lyrics are in Italian, but hiding a lot of secrets from Italy's history. Dare to discover more and travel into their world! "The Vitulean Empire" it's the only song from the album which has English lyrics representing the Italian power of conquering , the strength of the Vitulean Empire's sons, the appearance of the wolf motif, the barbarian customs, the taste of victory and the blood of war. Also an interesting fact which deserves to be remarked is that they include lyrics in Latin, proving that they didn't forget about their Latin people roots.

This album is a very complex one because it succeeds to combine the darkest side of the black metal with the melodious parts of folk metal. The voice of Svafnir manages to connect very well the screaming/growling parts to clean vocals and resembles very much with Bjørn "Narrenschiff" Holter, the vocal of Illnath (2001-2011). The instrumental part with the soud from a battlefiled in background, transmits you the heroic desire of battle, the rage of war, the thirst of blood and finally the taste of victory. Also the atmoshpere it's a very complex one enfolding all those war elements written above with the epic to ballad passages. You will be surprised to remark the playfull sound of the flute almost like an oasis of serenity through the tense battlefield atmosphere.

For more impressions, feeligs and diversity, I recommend "De Ferro Italico" to all the pagan metal fans and not only, and for all those passionate by ancient history's secrets, this time with Italian elements. Let the black draug bite you and let the veil be revealed! Cheers! \m/
